Decorating with Wallpaper: Five Questions Answered

We know decorating with wallpaper is a big commitment, and it’s a good idea to do your research before purchasing and installing to make sure you’ll love the final result. Which wallpaper should you choose? Where can you install it? How should you combine wallpaper with other interior design elements, such as paint or other patterns? Below, we have answers to five common questions when it comes to planning your wallpaper project.

Is wallpaper in style?

We know we’re a little biased, but our answer is a resounding yes! Wallpaper is absolutely in style in 2025. The modern design ethos is more about choosing what makes you happy rather than following what’s “in.” We love seeing people take risks with larger-scale patterns, bold colors, or cheeky wallpaper designs (like our beloved Drunk Monkeys design). Of course, design trends are as prevalent as they always have been, but many choose their home decor based on personal preference to create a home that feels like them. Browse our wallpaper designs and find one that feels like you.

Are wallpaper accent walls still in style?

Yes! Wallpaper accent walls certainly work for a variety of spaces. Pair an accent wall with coordinating paint colors (more on that below) for a cohesive look, and enjoy the visual interest of wallpaper without committing to a whole room. We love to see accent walls used as a statement behind a headboard in a bedroom, at the end of a hallway, or in a home office as a Zoom background. Murals work exceptionally well for accent walls, since many are designed as standalone art pieces. Need more inspiration? Browse our murals here, or check out our blog post on creating accent walls with wallpaper.

Can wallpaper be used in a bathroom?

Yes, wallpaper can be used in some bathrooms. Aesthetically, it works in just about any bathroom, but the shower steam is the deciding factor when it comes to material. Powder rooms (or half-baths, as they’re sometimes called) are perfect for wallpaper, whether you choose to go with classic wallpaper or peel and stick wallpaper. Since there is no shower steam, either choice is an excellent option for dressing up a small space. Bathrooms that include a shower are trickier due to the moisture– but not impossible! Reach out for a custom order, and we can find the best possible material for your space.

What wallpaper goes with painted walls?

Wallpaper can certainly be paired with painted walls. Our favorite way to find a match made in heaven is to choose a color already present in the wallpaper design of your choice, and coordinate from there! You can choose a predominant color in the wallpaper pattern for your paint, or a smaller accent color in the motif - it all depends on what overall look you’re going for. We recommend taking a sample or cutting of your wallpaper when shopping for paint chips to make sure the colors work together. When you get home, paint a test swatch on your wall and hang the wallpaper swatch or sample next to it to ensure the colors still work together. If painting walls before installing wallpaper, make sure the paint has fully dried and cured (this can take 2-6 weeks, but check the label on your paint can to be sure). What wallpaper is popular right now?

Once again, the most important part of choosing wallpaper is picking a design that resonates with you. Not sure where to start? Our most popular patterns are often oversized, cheeky, and unexpected, like those in our Animalistic Animals collection or our Punk Rock Toile. Western-inspired vintage wallpaper patterns are also popular, as are botanical designs. Our Cactus Garden and Geranium patterns add warmth to a variety of spaces, but if those aren’t your jam, check out all our botanical wallpaper patterns!

We hope we’ve answered a few of your questions about wallpaper, and we can’t wait to see how you use it to make your space feel more like home!
